"Ring that bell!"
Last Friday was a big day! The girls woke up way earlier than they normally do to walk the long hallway their daddy has been walking for the last 6 weeks to support him when he celebrated this precious and much anticipated moment:
Troy rang the bell!
After weeks of showing up every single day, he officially finished radiation. It’s hard to put into words what this part of the journey has meant. It’s been a daily reminder to just breathe and take the next step. The exhaustion, the blistering, the hair loss, the fatigue, the small victories, moments of quiet courage, and the overwhelming gratitude for those who walked this path beside him are all a part of a story still being written.Radiation was never just about treatment; it was about trust in Yeshua, his doctors, his body, the process, and in something greater than himself. We’re learning that healing is not linear; it’s layered, and while this phase is complete, the road ahead still requires care, strength, intention, and prayer.
There’s a strange mix of emotions right now—relief, gratitude, exhaustion, and also a little uncertainty. Because while this part is done, healing is far from over.
Now begins a different chapter. One that’s slower, more intentional, more rooted in listening to his body and supporting its recovery in every way we can.
As Troy moves forward, we’re shifting our focus to integrative treatments. Alternative approaches that nurture the whole person’s body, mind, and spirit. This means gentle movement, targeted nutrition, herbal support, and therapies that help restore what cancer and conventional treatments have depleted.
This next phase isn’t about “bouncing back” or rushing toward “normal.” It’s about becoming whole in a new way. It’s about honoring what his body has been through and choosing to heal with intention. Troy has follow-up appointments with neurosurgery, neurology, oncology, and his primary care doctor through June, so stay tuned.
To those who have held space for Troy through texts, meals, prayers, and presence, thank you. You’ve carried him more than you know.
From our last post, some are wondering why Troy is taking so many supplements if most of them do the same thing? Well… yes and no. It’s like eating a salad. As a whole, you’re simply eating vegetables. However, each vegetable has its own set of vitamins and nutrients, with some veggies having crossover benefits with each other. For example,
Leafy greens:
Spinach: High in iron, folate, and vitamin K.
Kale: Rich in vitamins A, C, and K, plus calcium.
Swiss chard: Good source of magnesium, vitamin K, and potassium.
Arugula: High in nitrates, which support heart health.
They all help reduce inflammation and support detox pathways, but each one offers a different mineral emphasis (iron, calcium, magnesium, etc.)
Orange Veggies:
Carrots: Loaded with beta-carotene (vitamin A precursor), vitamin K, and fiber.
Butternut squash: Also rich in beta-carotene, plus vitamin C and potassium.
Sweet potatoes: High in vitamin A, fiber, and manganese.
All support healthy vision and skin, but offer different fiber types and minerals.
Cruciferous Veggies:
Broccoli: High in vitamin C, fiber, and sulforaphane.
Cauliflower: Lower in vitamin C but rich in choline and vitamin B6.
Brussels sprouts: Packed with vitamin K, folate, and glucosinolates.
They all help with detox and reduce cancer risk, but differ in their specific antioxidants and B vitamins.
Does that make sense? Some of these supplements will be taken long-term, while some will just be taken long enough to help with detoxing his body. The effects of radiation will remain in his system for up to 12 weeks!
We have news regarding a GoFundMe.
When we were in the ER, our world stopped. In those early days, we decided to hold off on starting a GoFundMe. As we’ve stated before with regards to treatment, we didn’t want to rush into anything without research, prayer, and counsel, not knowing what the road ahead would look like. We needed time to breathe and to let things settle. Now that we have a clearer picture and know that some of the treatments he needs aren’t covered by insurance, we feel led to open this up to a broader audience. We’re trusting that by sharing his story, we can reach the people who feel called to walk alongside us. We’re deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support we’ve already received. It has meant more than words can say. Thank you!
If you’d rather donate through Venmo (@StephanieHdb) or PayPal at sheconsiders@gmail.com, please email me through that email, and I’ll send you a receipt for how your donation was used.
The total estimated goal we are trying to raise is $15,000. The GoFundMe states $6500. This is because this platform will build up to the goal the more it’s shared.
Here is a list of treatments in order of importance.
IV Therapy. This is a priority! High-dose vitamin C helps keep his immune system strong and keeps the cancer away. Although he has completed radiation, it will remain in his system for up to 12 weeks!
Integrative Cancer Specialist—This doctor is local to us and is referred by our naturopath.
I’ve also found Doctors who have gone through the Metabolic Approach to Cancer Training by Dr. Nasha Winters. You can listen to her cancer story here. There are several out-of-state options, the nearest being Seattle, and we would see him through tele-health.
We’re looking into an Integrative Oncology Center in Orange County, California. To receive care, Troy would need to stay for at least two weeks.
We have an updated Troy’s Recovery List on Amazon. Thank you to those who have already purchased items!
